For the second time, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and SM Supermalls collaborated to bring a series of exhibits that showcase the products and results of research and development of the Department and partner agencies.
Dubbed as Science for the People in SM Supermalls, the event is a follow-up activity of the “DOST at 60 in SM Supermalls” during the 60th anniversary of both DOST and SM in 2018.

“This series of exhibits highlight the significant contributions of science and technology to national development including efforts and initiatives of the entire scientific community in priority areas,” said DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development Rowena Cristina L. Guevara during her opening remarks.
The technologies featured in the exhibit are breakthroughs in agriculture and natural resources, public health, and emerging technologies, such as the new hyaluronic acid-based hydrogels, multi-shell neutron spectrometer, and bamboo-framed face shield.
DOST programs and services also take the spotlight in the exhibit through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) of the DOST Regional Offices, Science Explorer Bus of the Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and the Young Innovators’ Program of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technologies Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), among others
To adapt with the new normal, a combination of physical exhibits that are open to the public and located at select SM Supermalls, and virtual platforms that allow people from all ages to enjoy science at the comforts of their own homes is created.
“It may be different from the previous partnership with SM, but it still shares the same objective to bring science closer to the people,” said DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña during his keynote speech.
Organized by the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), the next series of hybrid exhibits will be seen in SM Fairview, SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, and SM Southmall starting in September 2021.
