A week-long series of the Invent School™ Seminar-Workshop was successfully conducted across the Philippines. The first session was held on 11 March 2025 at the Paaralang Sentral ng Talaga in Tanauan City, Batangas, while the last session happened on 13-14 March 2025 at Allen National High School (ANHS) in Northern Samar.

The 2025 Invent School™ Seminar-Workshop aims to foster creativity and innovation among students, focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). A total of 90 pupils/students participated throughout the week and engaged them in interactive activities which are designed to spark their interest in inventions and intellectual property.

Day 1: Igniting the Spark of Innovation in Batangas

On 11 March 2025, the first Invent School™ Seminar-Workshop for 2025 was held at the Paaralang Sentral ng Talaga, where 40 elementary pupils from the said school gathered for a day of innovation and learning. This event was a collaboration between the Department of Science and Technology - Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), the Philippine Manufacturing Company of Murata (PMM), and supported by the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) of Batangas and the Department of Education (DepEd) City Schools Division of Tanauan.

The morning session introduced the Invent School™ Program, which included engaging games and workshops aimed to foster creativity and critical thinking. The participants had the opportunity to experience the PMM Discover Electricity Kit which is a hands-on learning kit that teaches kids how electricity and capacitors work and their importance in our daily lives.

The afternoon session featured a live demonstration of the PMM Cheerleading Robots, which showcased the integration of gyroscopes, ultrasonic sensors, and light sensors. This demonstration highlighted the role of robotics in modern science and technology.

Day 2: Northern Samar’s Turn to Innovate

The second leg of the Invent School™ Seminar-Workshop took place at ANHS in Allen, Northern Samar, from 13 to 14 March 2025, where 50 ANHS high school students participated in the two-day event. This is the first-ever Invent School™ Seminar-Workshop to be conducted in Northern Samar since 2009. This event was supported by the PMM, Erovoutika Electronics and Automation (Erovoutika), PSTO Northern Samar, and the DepEd Schools Division Office of Northern Samar.

On 13 March, the Invent School™ Seminar-Workshop started with a pre-test to assess the student's knowledge of intellectual property rights (IPR). The day was packed with activities and discussions on creativity, invention development, and intellectual property. Students worked on challenges and engaged in discussions about the importance of creative thinking, creative problem-solving, and IPR, among others. Workshops were done after each module to reinforce the topics and allow students to apply their newfound knowledge in a hands-on way.

The second day of the event focused on prototyping and commercialization. The afternoon session was devoted to the presentations of mini creative research projects prepared by the student participants. A panel of experts from PSTO Northern Samar, ANHS, and the Schools Division Office of Northern Samar provided feedback and guidance on these presentations, encouraging the students to think critically about how their ideas could be developed into real-world innovations and possible entries to DOST-TAPI’s Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits under the Sibol Category for Creative Research (High School Level). A post-test was also done to measure the knowledge gained or changes in understanding and skills of the student participants after the Invent School™ Seminar-Workshop.

Awards and Recognition

At the end of both sessions, certificates of participation were given to the student participants, while faculty members who served as co-facilitators and partners received Certificates of Appreciation. Special awards were given to outstanding students in various categories, including Early Bird, “Bibo Guy” (most active male participant), “Bibo Gurl” (most active female participant), and Best Group, among others. Tokens from DOST-TAPI’s partners under the National Priority Plan of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA-NPP), such as PMM, and Erovoutika were handed out as special prizes. The Science and Mathematics Learning apps of Frontlearners were turned over to the schools for their library.

Looking Ahead: More to Come

The Invent School™ Seminar-Workshop is DOST-TAPI’s solution to the growing importance of encouraging creativity and innovation in young minds. With hands-on activities, expert guidance, and exciting demonstrations, the event provided students with a solid foundation in STEAM education, inspiring them to explore the world of invention and technopreneurship.

The DOST-TAPI and its partners look forward to more sessions like this in other parts of the country in the future. In 2025, the Invent School™ Program is planning to collaborate with other government offices as co-implementors or franchisees of the program to be able to reach more students and provide them with worthwhile opportunities to enhance or develop their creativity and innovation skills.
